A spicy nose with blueberry and mulberry notes followed by liquorice and smoky overtones. The palate shows ripe blueberry and blackberry flavours with hints of floral.

2017 Estate Merlot – John Lewis, The Canberra Times (May 2020)

2017 was a great Australian vintage. From Graeme and Ann Shaw’s Murrumbateman vineyard, this 14 per cent alcohol red is bright garnet and has bouquet garni scents and juicy mulberry front-palate flavour. The middle palate shows rhubarb, licorice, cloves and toasty oak and the finish ferric tannins. Good with lasagne and cellar for five years.

    2017 Estate Merlot – (April 2020)

The assumption that Australian merlot is no good continues to be rebutted by evidence from cool climate regions where it is most suited. This merlot from the Canberra region has correct aromas of tobacco, red fruits and smoke. The palate is medium bodied, the acidity fresh and the length on the finish medium.

This wine will suit drinking now and over the next five to eight years. Rating: Good to Very Good.

2017 Estate Merlot – Max Crus, The Daily Examiner (August 2019)

Merlot is a forgotten friend. Sometimes you can’t be bothered getting in touch, and then you do and wonder whey you didn’t.

2017 Estate Merlot – International Cool Climate Wine Show Judges Comment (May 2019)

Ripe plum and fruitcake character. Classic ripe older style, quite big tannins but excellent intensity and complexity
