Using our cool climate Shiraz grapes we have created a delicious wine exhibiting wild strawberry and peach with a savoury edge and a soft tannic grip on the finish. Very similar to a French Provincial style Rosé.

    2019 Rosé – Winsor Dobbin (Oct 19)

    My tasting group sampled several 2019 vintage rosés a couple of weeks ago and this was the winner by popular acclaim. The good news is that this is also very affordable. This is delicate and dry, a pale blush colour reminiscent of the rosés of Provence which is very climatically different to Canberra, where this is grown and made. This is bright, savoury and grippy – and very food friendly. I’d match it with Lebanese dishes, or perhaps with a gourmet veggie burger.

    As you settle into your seat to watch today’s NRL grand final, this Canberra region shiraz-based rose wouldn’t be out of place, especially if you’re backing the Raiders to win their first title in 25 years.

    Owner-winemaker Graeme Shaw’s delicately-crafted wine is light, fresh and awesomely tempting. A winner, for sure.

    Cool climate shiraz from the Canberra region makes a seriously fresh and light rosé – similar to a French provincial style. And just like in France, platters of good food are what this wine has in mind! Serve it well chilled and let the good times roll.

    Drink it with finger food, charcuterie, cheese platters.

    2019 Rosé – Nick Butler (Sep 2019)

    Salmon-pink colour. Elevated aromatics – red cherries, lemon juice, cool-climate characters. Citrus carries into the palate, lemons and mandarins, red fruits largely absent – a distinct tang that freshens and demands another sip. Speaks of region as much as it does of style.

    ‘SPRING’, the late, great comic Robin Williams declared, ‘is nature’s way of saying Let’s Party’. And in that spirit, here are three light-hearted, affordable wines for spring enjoyment.

    This refreshing shiraz-based, 12%-alcohol rosé is from Graeme and Ann Shaw’s 34-hectare vineyard near the NSW village of Murrumbateman, but in the Canberra wine region. It is pale blush pink and has peach blossom perfume and crisp strawberry front- palate flavour. Blueberry, apple peel and flint characters feature on the middle palate and the finish has mineral-edged acid. Drink now with a fresh king prawns salad.

    2019 Rosé – QWine (Aug 2019)

    Welcome to the first release Rosé from Shaw. Made from Shiraz fruit, it’s pretty handy too.

    Ripe strawberries, apricot kernel and the hint of a creamy drive through the mid-palate. A hit of the white bit of the strawberry rolls through late with a tense red apple crunch and ever so fine lick of spice. A crowd pleaser.

    Shaw Wines 2019 Rosé ($20): I completely agree with Murrumbateman-based winemaker Graeme Shaw that this wine is delicious and right on the money. It’s based on shiraz and given just six hours of skin contact. This was enough to give the wine an attractive blush colour and plenty of varietal flavour — and some tannin. It has a distinct savoury edge, is completely dry and perfectly suited to our summer lifestyle.

    Their winemaker/proprietor Graeme Shaw sees it this way: “This wine has been in the planning stage for quite a while now. We were chasing 12.5ºBaume [grape ripeness] of bright, fresh and flavoursome fruit before we created our first — and what we think is the ideal — dry rosé.”
