Tasting Notes

Winemaking and Viticulture

Riesling is an aromatic grape variety displaying flowery, almost perfumed aromas as well as high acidity. This classic dry Riesling shows all these attributes. Much of the unique character of this wine is developed in the vineyard, low yielding spur-pruned vines with fruit harvested in the cool of the night to ensure fruit is delivered at temperatures less than 20 degrees. All the fruit is sourced solely from Shaw Vineyard Estate’s Murrumbateman vineyard, an area renowned for production of premium cool climate wines Stelvin closures are used for freshness and to ensure long-term quality.

Honeycomb, lemon curd and strawberry aromatics. Intense front-palate with honeyed pears and citrus curd. A wonderfully fresh salt-brine character keeps it high-toned and lifted with drive, and acid accelerates it deep and long into the finish. A spritz of residual sugar keeps it lingering.

I have been a fan of Canberra Rieslings for a while, this Shaw Winemakers one is typical of the ones I have tried from Canberra previously, crisp citrus tones with a hint of Guava and honey, it went great with my south coast oysters.
